YWCA Vancouver City

The YWCA at 1055 Dunsmuir Street in downtown Vancouver, (Bentall Four,) had an unfortunate flood that left them closed and looking to make things right again for their clients.

The project started off as a flood insurance claim to replace the damaged floor but after some discussion with Turner Construction, the YWCA were able to work with Beatty Floors to keep within a budget for a complete overhaul of the facility.

Commercial Flooring Planning and Collaboration

Beatty was involved with the architect in the “value engineering” process as well as providing the technical detail requirements to complete the proper installations of hard wood in dance studio, rubber in the work out area, carpet in meeting room, ceramic tile in bathrooms and finally vinyl plank in the administration office.

Turner Construction and Beatty Floors worked in harmony with controlling the schedule and the flow of site logistics. With Covid-19, scheduling meant working safely on site with early 4:30 am deliveries to reduce disruptions and allow for social distancing for those still working in the building. Careful planning of staging and having the appropriate skids of materials in the work area each day was paramount.

Commercial Flooring Selection For Project

One of the deciding factors in the selection of products was to solve proper water drainage in bathrooms from showers. Julian Tiles supplied gorgeous porcelain tiles from small mosaic 2″x2″ tiles on shower drain floors to large porcelain slab wall tiles used for durability, cleanliness and gorgeous design on the bathroom walls.

Other commercial flooring products used were:

Shaw Contract carpet used in hall ways and a dedicated meditation room.

Polyfloor Expona Luxury Vinyl Tile for break out rooms for counselling and small meetings.

Dinoflex Rubber provided interlocking rubber tiles for the weights and exercise machines room.

Johnsonite base was used to complement the transition from floor to walls giving a clean finish.

The final result was stunning, unique floors that complemented the new finishes of the renovated YWCA in the heart of downtown Vancouver. A gorgeous space for workouts, mediations, meetings, dance etc.
